John 1: 1-18

The Word Became Flesh

This key passage summarizes the truth about Jesus Christ: He is God the Creator who became a human being and brought eternal life to all who receive him.

The two overlaid stars of David (top center of the painting) represent Jesus, who is the Word, being both with God and God himself. Words curl out from the the stars. To the right and left is all of creation—which was made through him.

The leaves growing inside the body of the Word made flesh (lower center) show that life is in him. His light is the life of all people (below the stars and above the man). The darkness (purple) cannot overcome his light.

John the Baptist (left center) comes as a witness to the light of Christ. Most of the people of the world (brown figures in the lower right) do not recognize Jesus. But those on the narrow path (brightly colored figures) receive him and believe in his name. To them he gives the right to become children of God.

The law was given through Moses (bottom left corner), but it is the grace and truth of Jesus, the one and only Son (central figure with the red heart), that glows with the glory of God.
