John 1: 19-51
Following Jesus
John the Baptist (dressed in camel hair) sees the Spirit (gold dove) descend and remain on Jesus (dressed in blue). Jesus approaches John (under the three trees). The next day John is with two of his disciples (lower right corner) when he sees Jesus again and tells them, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
Two disciples follow Jesus and ask him where he is staying. They spend the day with him (right center).
Andrew (dressed in orange) finds his brother Simon (in orange with a beard) and tells him they have found the Messiah. He brings Simon to Jesus and Jesus renames him Peter (center of painting).
Philip (in yellow) finds Nathanael (in purple) and tells him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” (upper left corner)
Jesus sees Nathanael (upper center) and makes a prophetic remark. Nathanael declares, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus quotes Genesis 28:12 and says, “you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”
